Bye Bye, Mamie & Papie
This morning we had our traditional Bye Bye Breakfast at IHOP. Theo dazzled the patrons with his coos and beaming smiles. We had dropped Aidan off at school before going to IHOP, which pleased all involved, but most of all Aidan himself. Marissa had one day of paradise with Aidan gone. We will be starting him on full-time care soon.
Before their send off, Marilyn checked her home voicemail messages just one more time. There was a call from Rico--Joel's treasured childhood friend. Rico had been in a car accident on the 401. Hit from behind. He had a broken leg, but was otherwise OK. In an uncharacteristic gesture of good will and generosity, Joel suggested that we get Rico something for his troubles.
Later on, Joel and I picked up Aidan from school. There was a big sign posted for our benefit: "Please bring healthy treats for your child's classmates." So maybe sugar cookies thickly smeared with brightly colored frosting and sprinkles weren't the best idea for his birthday treat. Good Lord, you can't bring trail mix because someone will be allergic, homemade fruit pops are impractical and who wants to be the kid who brings carrot sticks to celebrate his birthday? I'll have to be more creative for next year's birthday. Maybe he can hand out plastic whistles. His teaches will love that.
